There’s a lot of Lightning pride going on in the Bay area this week, as we celebrate yet another Stanley Cup win. While most of our canine patients were probably more than happy to beg for treats at some of those game-watching parties, one special pup out there was really rooting for the Lightning. That would be Bolt, the team’s official Good Boy! A local Tampa, FL vet discusses this cute pooch below.
Bolt Biography
Bolt is a yellow Labrador, which already puts him among the ranks of some of the cutest (and goodest) dogs ever. The pup was adopted by the Lightning back in 2019. Why does a hockey team need a dog? While it’s probably safe to say that Bolt chased after a puck or two during his time in Tampa Bay, he was actually here for a great cause, as part of Southeastern Guide Dogs’ crack team of pups. After spending his puppyhood having fun in the sun here in Tampa, he moved on to Chicago, to complete his Guide Dog training. (We can’t say for certain that the pooch had something to do with that winning streak, but we’re not denying it, either.)
Southeastern Guide Dogs
We can’t really discuss Bolt without talking about his alma mater, Southeastern Guide Dogs. The organization trains pups to help people with vision impairments live independently. As a matter of fact, International Assistance Dog Day is coming up pretty soon. This is a great organization to spread awareness about!
Social Media
So how is Bolt doing now? By the looks of things, he’s loving life. You can catch up with the cute pooch—who’s now all grown up—on his Twitter and Instagram pages. We probably don’t have to tell you this, but expect lots of adorable photos … including one of him licking the Stanley Cup the last time we won it. Although Bolt ultimately did not end up becoming a Guide dog, his time here wasn’t in vain. Maybe Bolt will make another special appearance here in Tampa next year … when the Lightning may very well become a three-time champs!
Celebrating
Sooner or later, the Stanley Cup victory celebrations will die down. However, there are definitely plenty of lifelong Lightning fans around here. Get your pooch in on the fun with some official Tampa Bay Lightning pet gear, which you can find here.
