Meow Like A Pirate Day is September 19th! If you’ve spent any amount of time in Tampa Bay, you’ve probably noticed that we have an affinity for pirates. From the Buccaneers team name to our Gasparilla and Guavaween fests, there are lots of memorabilia and/or references to swashbuckling rogues who once sacked the area. Why not celebrate this special day with your feline pal? A Tampa, FL vet lists some ways to do that below.
Bounty
Treats are a purrfect way to recognize any pet holiday. This one, of course, calls for seafood. Kitties can have most types of fish, including canned salmon, tuna, shrimp, or crab. Imitation crab or lobster is fine, as are things like mackerel, cod, flounder, and tilapia. Just remember to remove the skin, bones, and fat.
Proper Photo
Cats are always adorable. However, this is a great time to get some themed pictures of Fluffy. If you have a Jolly Roger flag, snap your kitty’s picture in front of it. You can also pose your furball with Gasparilla beads, coins, a chest, or even a parrot toy. A bottle of rum will also work. Remove the props when you’re done, though. You don’t want your model getting tangled up!
Treasure Chest
Speaking of treasure chests, why not make one for your kitty? Fill a cardboard box with catnip mice and other popular cat goodies. If you have kids, have them decorate the box as a chest. If you want to score some extra purrs, sign Fluffy up for a monthly subscription box.
Crafts
Another fun option that can make a great kids’ project? Make Fluffy her own little cardboard pirate ship! Or, have the little ones draw pictures of your feline pal as a pirate.
Toys
New toys may very well be Fluffy’s favorite bounty. Pick up a fun new plaything for her. If you can find something pirate-related, all the better!
Movies
A pirate movie is of course the perfect way to top off this fun holiday. There ‘arr’ lots of great ones to choose from. You can’t go wrong with The Goonies, The Pirates of The Caribbean, or Peter Pan movies. This is also a good time to play with Fluffy!
